MEET THE HERD
THE HERD
-
Treasure is the herd leader with the responsibility to alert the others to danger and be followed to safety. He is Jet Pilot’s mentor and best friend. He tolerates hours of horseplay from the young colt in the field. His inner circle includes his best friend Josie, her filly Amber, and Jet Pilot as a buddy. He is strong and deeply attentive standing quietly beside those who enter his space, delicately understanding the truth. There is a sense of purpose about him as if he were born for this work and understands the importance of his role with the herd and with the humans he encounters. He loves to be special and the favorite. Both majestic and warm, he has a rare balance of strength, sensitivity, and command.

Since birth Josie she was described as a horse who could “figure her way out of anything,” She has a deep intelligence and strong sense of self. Josie is expressive, aware, and naturally confident.
Her lifelong partner is Treasure. The two grew up together in New Mexico and were later transferred to a sale barn in Montana. Recognizing their bond, Josie was included in the purchase. Today, their connection remains unshakable. Now that Josie has a filly, this small circle within the herd has become affectionately known as “The Three Musketeers”. They are always aware, always involved, and always together. Josie embodies loyalty, perceptiveness, and the quiet strength found in enduring companionship. Motherhood has made her more aware of her ability to share her love. description

Born of Trust Amber was born in April 2024 as the herd watched quietly. Those first hours when a foal is fragile, before finding their feet reveal the lasting power of imprinting. The trust formed in that first hour of life shapes the relationship with a horse forever. Amber was born with one blue eye and one brown, a rare and striking gift. She is called “the Unicorn,” as there is something magical about her presence. She steps away from the herd to check in while I move through the pasture, choosing to stand nearby as if to witness and assess. As a young horse so at ease in her connection with humans and so secure in the herd, Amber embodies openness, loving acceptance, and a quiet sharing that feels both natural and deeply reassuring.

Spiritual insightfulness
Melina is a rescued Thoroughbred from a polo operation that transported eleven horses away and left her behind. Bringing another horse into the herd was not my desire but there was no other option. She was bred the same time as Josie so the babies could play together.
Melena carries a deeply quiet and perceptive presence. She has turned out to be the spiritual heart of the herd. During a visit from an animal communicator, Melena went over to Kristina and with her teeth snapped her skinny jeans, no easy move without risking a bite to the skin, and said, “Finally someone I can talk to, my name is not Bonita, It’s Melena. You people are so amazing. You have created an energy vortex here where we are all so happy together, You can create anything you want. But you people with your drama… put it into the Earth. Don’t pray about it, put it to the Earth, the earth knows what to do with it. And be who you are, incredible manifestors in the World.”
That moment deepened my respect for the way horses perceive humans and the unseen truths and connections between us. description

Gentle Giant
Jet Pilot was born in June 2024 From his very first moments, he carried a gentle nature. A Thoroughbred–Friesian cross, he inherited the powerful stature of his Friesian father and is growing into an impressively large horse.
Jet Pilot is spirited and full of life. He deeply admires Treasure, and the two have formed a remarkable friendship. Jet Pilot will offer Treasure a bite of his special alfalfa, feeding him mouth to mouth. The pair frolic across the pasture until they are sweaty from horse play.
For all his size, Jet Pilot has the affectionate heart of a companion dog. He follows along during chores, eager to be included, always curious, always kind. With a natural willingness to learn and a strong work ethic already emerging, he watches closely and seems to apprentice himself to Treasure whenever meaningful work is underway. description

My sweet orphan
Mita is a short version of Mamita “mommy” in Spanish. Since her mother rejected her at birth she became Mita without the Mama. I didn’t realize she considered me her mother until I took her and her companion filly from another mare to a parade at 6 months old. The other filly was panicked looking for her mother, Mita was quiet and calm. Then I realized it was because I am her mother. We’ve been together now for 28 years.
Mita has never forgotten her difficult beginning and has a personality that was shaped by those two first weeks. She doesn’t feel like she fits in like the others in the herd and finds it difficult to accept love. She has a remarkable work ethic and tries to prove herself worthy. She feels she can speak out loud as people do and nickers and whinnies with a voice she expects us to understand.
Through her daughter she has come to know unconditional love. Trusting for her has always required courage and she has found that with her daughter. Her life reflects resilience, devotion and the profound healing needed after abandonment.
