MITA
MEET MITAMy sweet orphan
Mita is a short version of Mamita “mommy” in Spanish. Since her mother rejected her at birth she became Mita without the Mama. I didn’t realize she considered me her mother until I took her and her companion filly from another mare to a parade at 6 months old. The other filly was panicked looking for her mother, Mita was quiet and calm. Then I realized it was because I am her mother. We’ve been together now for 28 years.
Mita has never forgotten her difficult beginning and has a personality that was shaped by those two first weeks. She doesn’t feel like she fits in like the others in the herd and finds it difficult to accept love. She has a remarkable work ethic and tries to prove herself worthy. She feels she can speak out loud as people do and nickers and whinnies with a voice she expects us to understand.
Through her daughter she has come to know unconditional love. Trusting for her has always required courage and she has found that with her daughter. Her life reflects resilience, devotion and the profound healing needed after abandonment.
